Adam Baldwin On The Chances Of Firefly’s Return

Baldwin

The story remains the same. Firefly is still a cancelled cult show that has no solid plans of coming back to fans in any way, shape, or form. But the rumors persist, voiced by Joss Whedon himself as much as anyone else. His recent round of fantasy-building concerned his desire to return to that universe, possibly once he’s finished with The Avengers sequel and an as-yet-unknown smaller project.

Rather than ask millions of random Internet users what they think about that — since they’ll gladly let everyone know anyway — MTV spoke with resident badass Adam “Jayne Cobb” Baldwin about how he feels about a return to Firefly. “I don’t know if he’s [Whedon] just dangling a carrot out there for fun,” Baldwin says. “I mean I know he truly believes that there are so many hurdles that seem insurmountable at this point, but it’s fun to dream.”

But that doesn’t mean Baldwin would stay away. “I think we would all jump at the chance to redo it,” he says. And then the most damning question of all: “How would one unkill Wash?” We don’t, Adam, because it was all a dream! Right, everyone? I’m pretty sure every Whedonite out there would accept this explanation so long as Alan Tudyk got to return to the show. Because, as this fan’s super-theory sees it, there’s no way Wash survived.

Could Joss Whedon Make A Serenity Sequel After He Finishes Avengers 2?

serenity

The biggest movie of 2012 was undoubtedly Marvel’s The Avengers. The success of this film catapulted director Joss Whedon into mainstream stardom, which is pretty impressive for being only his feature directing gig. His film debut was, of course, Serenity, the film adaptation of his TV series Firefly. Fans of the series were waiting for Whedon to reunite the Serenity cast and make a sequel film, but Serenity didn’t do well enough with general audiences to warrant it.

In an interview with The Toronto Star, however, Joss Whedon teases the possibility of making Serenity 2 after The Avengers 2 is finished and released into theaters:

“I’ll never really accept it,” Whedon said of the end of the Firefly saga. “And I always, in the back of my head, think, ‘What if I could get the old gang back together?’

“Part of me is like, ‘God, it would be great when I finish Avengers 2 to do that,’” he continued, before downplaying the likelihood of that ever happening. “I suspect very strongly that after Avengers 2 the next thing I do will be a one-man show,” he joked. “Possibly one monkey.”

Watch Deleted Scenes From Firefly And Fall In Love With The Show All Over Again

The Firefly 10th Anniversary Special: Browncoats Unite which aired on the Science Channel this past fall proved that there’s still plenty of enthusiasm for the short-lived series in the fan community. The “space Western” is a reminder of a time when geek mastermind Joss Whedon wasn’t a mainstream success and an unstoppable force in Hollywood. Now a few deleted scenes from Firefly, originally aired as part of the special, have popped up on the Internet for all to enjoy!

The first deleted scene is from Firefly’s two-hour pilot episode titled “Serenity.” While Kaylee is recovering from a gunshot wound, Simon and Book talk about the origins of the titular ship, and why they chose this ship among the many at the space dock. Afterwards, Simon does some further research on the Battle of Serenity Valley and Zoe tells him why the name was important to Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Please note, Simon uses an iPad-like device with a Siri-like assistant almost 10 years before Apple released these products.
