Dwayne Johnson Adds Fuel To The Green Lantern Fire

GLIf you’ve been anywhere near one of the series of tubes that make up the Internet recently, you’re probably aware that Warner Bros. and DC have been trying to chase Marvel’s coattails and establish their own interlinked cinematic universe. Man of Steel was the first step, and the next will be the movie alternately referred to as Man of Steel 2 or Superman vs. Batman. In addition to Ben Affleck as Batman, that movie is set to introduce Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and possibly characters like the Flash and Green Lantern, as a prelude to a Justice League movie in the vein of Marvel’s massive Avengers team up. Last month rumors broke that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might be slipping on a power ring as Green Lantern — specifically the John Stewart incarnation. Now IGN points to an Instagram post from Johnson that may add fuel to the (green) flame.

Johnson had recently revealed that he had been meeting with DC about some sort of project, although that tweet didn’t provide any real clues. It simply said:

RockStewartMarvel has pulled off something many would have dismissed as impossible not that long ago — they’ve created a cohesive cinematic universe that weaves throughout individual films and brings the heroes together for the big-screen Avengers team-ups. With Marvel’s grand experiment raking in billions at the box office, it’s no surprise that their Distinguished Competition — DC Comics — is trying to play catch-up, beginning with last summer’s Man of Steel, and continuing in the upcoming sequel to that film. Now a rumor is circulating that actor/wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might be joining the DC cinematic universe, and that hopefully he’ll look good in green.

The rumor mill began churning when Johnson tweeted the following last week.

Dwayne Johnson To Star In Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide Movie

It’s hard to deny Dwayne Johnson’s natural charm, a trait that he’s translated into a successful film career. The Rock is now going to have to turn his charms on monsters as he’s been tapped to star in the adaptation of the Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide. He may be headlining Survivor Series and Wrestlemania for the WWE once again, but Johnson also has his sights set on becoming a badass brand name in films. Johnson and Vin Diesel are essentially the trimmed and toned up versions of Schwarzenegger and Stallone.

According to Deadline Dwayne Johnson is now attached to star in the Simon Kinberg produced film. Based on the comic series by John Paul Russ, we’re not sure what the movie version of the Survival Guide will be. As the title suggests the comics are chock full of tips on how to make it through an encounter with vampires, Big Foot, werewolves, zombies, and other sordid creatures.

The Rock To Star In A Jonny Quest Movie

jonnyJonny Quest was different. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it groundbreaking, the show wasn’t exactly quality, but it was different from the usual cartoon stuff you’d see on Saturday mornings. In premise, it was a lot like a knockoff of the early Tom Swift books, a kid with a scientist father investigating strange occurrences. Like all early Hanna Barbara prodcuts, it was pretty cheesy, but since it’s endured for decades in several different incarnations, maybe there was a good idea in there somewhere. Or maybe Jonny just had a cute dog.

Hollywood will try to find that good idea when it turns Jonny Quest into a feature film. Moviehole reports that Warner Bros is working on churning out a Quest movie, with Zac Efron as Jonny and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as loyal heavy Race Bannon.
