With Battlestar Galactica gone and their BSG spin-off Caprica still a long, long way off, the newly christened SyFy network is looking for a new tentpole. They’re hoping it’ll be the third iteration of Stargate, which they’re calling Stargate Universe.
If you’ve tuned into the Sci Fi Channel this weekend you’ve probably seen the trailer. They’re pushing it pretty heavily. For those of you who missed it, we’ve got it for you below along with the first ever Stargate Universe cast photo. Is it just me or does the guy in the middle look like Jonah Hill? God I wish it was Jonah Hill. Imagine the kid from Superbad hopping through space and looking to score booze. Sadly, that’s not this show. Take a look:
In case you're still wondering what the heck it's about, here's the official Stargate Universe plot synopsis:
A band of soldiers, scientists and civilians are forced through a stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, The Destiny, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.
Stargate Universe will debut as a two-hour movie event on SCI FI and will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution. Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new series.
