I know a lot of people are upset that Joss Whedon’s new sci fi spy series Dollhouse has been dumped on Friday nights. The prevailing wisdom is that nobody watches TV on Friday because they’re out getting drunk and picking up whores. I don’t buy it.
Speaking as a lifelong dork, my Friday nights aren’t particularly busy. Let’s face it, nerds, dorks, geeks, we’re the audience for this show. Newsflash: We’re home. Putting Dollhouse on Thursday nights isn’t going to somehow suck in the American Idol crowd who is out barhopping on Friday nights. Whether it’s Friday or Thursday or Monday they weren’t going to tune in anyway. Don’t worry Joss, the rest of us will. If that’s not a big enough audience for the show, then give it up. That audience doesn’t exist.
