Late this month, Fox television is releasing one of the most original, made for television projects in recent memory. It's a science fiction movie, written by Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore and directed by Peter Berg, of films like Friday Night Lights.

It takes place almost entirely in space which is, a rarity on television to begin with, and doesn't seem to shy away from the heavy, sci-fi concepts that most networks usually avoid. Below we've got the official synopsis and a huge collection of clips from Virtuality for you. Read, watch, and make sure you check it out on June 26th at 8PM EST.

ronald moore 2 Ronald Moores VirtualityI'm not exactly sure I support this "freedom of choice" thing. For example, if I was the President, I'd make Ronald D. Moore keep Battlestar Galactica on the air for at least ten years maybe 20. Sense the chances of my becoming President are 0% at the moment in the absense of a bloodless coup, I'll have to have faith in Ronald Moore's choices. He failed me once with Bionic Woman but I see potential in his next project.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Fox Television has greenlit Moore's 2 hour pilot, "Virtuality". Virtuality is set aboard the Phaeton, Earth's first starship. The show follows the crew of 12 astronauts on a ten year journey to explore a distant solar system. Since a ten year journey is long, the crew needs something to preoccupy the time. I guess the license plate game didn't make it to the future? Anyways, NASA installs virtual reality modules so that the crew can assume adventurous identities and go wherever they want. However, a bug is found in the system. Well, I'm not sure what the bug has done, but the rest of the premise seems a helluva lot like the damn holodeck. Moore's writing is pretty in depth so I'm confident that he can turn this idea into something far deeper than this plot description entails. Moore and fellow BSG writer Michael Taylor wrote the script and will both serve as executive producers along with Virtuality premise creators, Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun.

Virtuality will begin production in July.
