The remake of Day the Earth Stood Still has its first trailer. Keanu Reeves stars as an alien who lands on Earth to warn us of an impending attack, if we don’t change our evil, wasteful ways. I think he wants us to recycle or something. See the trailer in high-res over at Apple.com.
I’m long past being worried about the remake job being done on The Day the Earth Stood Still, I’m officially sinking into utter despair. Bad enough that a classic like this is being redone at all, but the fact that they’re turning it into an environmentalism message movie just makes me want to projectile vomit. Now, the thing looks even worse.
AICN has posted a review of the remake’s script, and the review is not good. In fact I can’t imagine it being much worse. Go over there for the full review, but here’s a few choice, utterly depressing snippets from it:

Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: remaking The Day the Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves is a terrible idea. It’d be like remaking Hitchock with Vince Vaughn… oh wait I think they’ve already done that. Well then you know exactly how bad this is.
It’s one thing to remake it, but it’s quite another to let Al Gore or his equivalent muck around with the remake script. While the original movie was about an alien coming to Earth to warn us to cut it out with the whole nuclear war thing, Keanu Reeves says the new one is about an alien coming to Earth to make us all vegans and force us to hug trees. Or something like that. Here’s what Keanu told MTV:
The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I’m a friend to the earth.
