New Stargate Universe Webisode Goes Kino

stargate universeAs a fan of great science fiction I have no good excuse for watching Stargate Universe, other than to say sometimes it gets lonely working the nightshift and you need something to do while you eat your midnight lunch. It’s not a great show, but it’s a show I watch, and I suspect it’s also watched by a lot of you.

For all of the show’s flaws, probably it’s most glaring failure is in its insistence on using floating, silly sci-fi devices called “Kinos” to film reality show confession scenes which, are just kind of ridiculous. But one of the good things about Stargate Universe is that it seems to have no idea how much it sucks and so it just keeps right on doing lame things like the Kino’s anyway. Stargate Universe Trailer And Cast Photo

sgu Stargate Universe Trailer And Cast PhotoWith Battlestar Galactica gone and their BSG spin-off Caprica still a long, long way off, the newly christened SyFy network is looking for a new tentpole. They’re hoping it’ll be the third iteration of Stargate, which they’re calling Stargate Universe.

If you’ve tuned into the Sci Fi Channel this weekend you’ve probably seen the trailer. They’re pushing it pretty heavily. For those of you who missed it, we’ve got it for you below along with the first ever Stargate Universe cast photo. Is it just me or does the guy in the middle look like Jonah Hill? God I wish it was Jonah Hill. Imagine the kid from Superbad hopping through space and looking to score booze. Sadly, that’s not this show. Take a look: read this entry »

Stargate Atlantis Season 4 On DVD

stargate atlantisMGM Home Entertainment has announced the impending release of Stargate Atlantis season 4 on DVD. I’ve never quite understood the show’s popularity myself, but there’s no doubt that it’s beloved, presumably by people who have never seen Farscape.

The season 4 DVD drops on July 8th, which gives it a couple of weeks to monopolize the money of Stargate fans before the release of Stargate Continuum on Blu-Ray July 29th.

The Atlantis season 4 set will retail for $49.98 and include 20 episodes on 5 discs along with the usual assortment of extras. Expect commentary tracks, deleted scenes, photos, and even a blooper reel where presumably, Amanda Tapping will accidentally punch someone in the nuts. Isn’t that the way bloopers work?
