awesome Captain Awesome In The Running For Captain AmericaCasting is underway on Joe Johnston's Captain America movie The First Avenger. Word is that he'll pick someone to play Steve Rogers, aka Captain America soon. That someone could be Ryan McPartlin.

McPartlin plays brother-in-law character "Captain Awesome" on NBC's Chuck. He's an all-American type (hence the character's nickname) and an obvious choice to represent America. The news of his involvement comes from Moviehole where McPartlin tells them:

“The one thing I can't stand are these actors that are twittering about auditioning for Captain America. It's really tacky. With that said, it is in the casting process and like many other actors, I read for it, so we'll wait and see what happens. Regardless, I'm pretty psyched to be Captain Awesome for the time being.”

cap Captain America Update: Theyre Focused On Fighting HitlerDirector Joe Johnson's new movie The Wolfman gets released in a few weeks, which means he'll soon be free to focus on the movie we really want to see, his take on Captain America. He sat down with Film Journal to offer an update on how far along with Cap. Here's what he had to say:

"We're in prep," Johnston says. "Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we're set up down in Manhattan Beach [California]. It's the part of the process that I love the most," he enthuses. "We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do this?' It's that phase of the production where money doesn't matter: ‘Let's put all the greatest stuff up on the wall and [then later] see what we can afford.'" The film, he says at this early stage, will begin "in 1942, 1943" during World War II. "The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we're sort of avoiding. We're going back to the ’40s, and then forward to what they're doing with Captain America now."
