SaldanaWith Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy scheduled to begin production this June in London, many of the movie’s elements are coming together. There’s two more members of the Guardians who remain to cast — Rocket Raccoon and Groot — but the biggest unknown is what the script and storyline will be like. Now actress Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness, Avatar) has showered some love on the screenplay, suggesting we might actually have a good movie on our hands.

In an interview with MTV, Saldana talked about the Guardians of the Galaxy script’s sense of humor. Although the film’s premise is pretty out there strange — what with the talking raccoons & trees and all — so a light touch to the material could help audiences ease into the odd world of the Guardians. Saldana says:

‘It feels unique, but it doesn’t feel like it hasn’t been done before,’ she said. ‘I love the levity in the script and I like the casting of it. I’ve been a fan of Chris Pratt and I think that his gifted, natural comedic timing might come in handy to play someone like Star-Lord.’

When asked about how revealing or risqué Gamora’s costume would be in Guardians, Saldana offered her thoughts on how to approach “the deadliest woman in the galaxy.” Gamora’s look might be tricky to pull off on screen, compared to her appearance on the comic book page. “I’m in the process right now of the evolution of conceiving Gamora’s look,” says Saldana. “It’s exciting! We’re trying to work out comfort also, because you know that I definitely want to be involved in the stunt-doing of my character.” Here’s Gamora’s look from the comics:

There is no doubt that James Gunn and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy will deliver a unique comic book movie. But will general audiences come out for the movie when it’s released next summer? If the new film features Saldana rocking a revealing Gamora outfit, that couldn’t hurt its odds.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters everywhere on August 1, 2014, in 3D. Watch the MTV video interview below:
