Along with the Clone Wars cartoon, Star Wars Rebels is one of the first projects to fit into the new streamlined Star Wars canon. The show’s producers have often teased that characters and in Rebels may appear or be referenced in the upcoming live action films beginning with The Force Awakens, but that crossover also extends to existing characters turning up in Rebels. We saw Obi-Wan — or at least his hologram — early in the series, but tonight another legendary Jedi will cross paths with the Ghost crew…even if he doesn’t physically appear. Check out Kanan’s close encounter with Jedi Master Yoda below.

Tonight’s episode of Rebels, entitled “Path of the Jedi,” finds Kanan seeking out a lost Jedi temple on Lothal. He’s officially taken young Ezra as his padawan learner, but if Star Wars has taught us anything, it’s that apprentices are nothing but trouble. Given Ezra’s powerful Force display controlling beasts in the previous episode, it’s understandable that Kanan might want to seek out some guidance, but little did he suspect he would find himself on an ethereal conference call with Yoda himself. And I gotta say, just hearing Frank Oz voicing Yoda, accompanied by John Williams’ unmistakable score, puts a nostalgic lump in my throat and throws just a little bit more fuel on the fire that is my renewed excitement about the Star Wars franchise.

“Path of the Jedi” premieres tonight at 9/8c on Disney XD.
