X-Files Season 10 Hits Comic Stands This June

For X-Files fans, the truth is definitely still out there. Only “there” in this case means a comic shop, rather than inside a television or on a movie screen. Considering how long it’s been since the show left FOX, fans would probably accept an X-Files revival if it were told through a series of zoetropes. Obviously I’m not counting I Want to Believe, because, you know…
IDW Publishing, one of the best comic companies out there, is collaborating with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to bring fans the upcoming The X-Files: Season 10, which will see its first issue released on June 19, 2013. When we shared the initial news last month, few details were available, but IDW’s press release is full of them.
Chris Carter will serve as executive producer for the series and will no doubt be doing some major story consulting, given these are his longest lasting prized creations. The series will be written by comics scribe Joe Harris, responsible for thrillers such as Great Pacific, Spontaneous, and Ghost Projekt, among others. His words will be put to images by artist Michael Walsh and colorist Jordie Bellaire, both of whom recently worked on the time travelling series Comeback. Issue #1 will feature the cover designing talent of Dave Johnson, Joe Corroney, and Carlos Valenzuela, along with a classic photo image of Mulder and Scully.
Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief has put a lot of faith into licensed tie-in products, and has quite a bit to say about this project.
It was already an incredibly exciting prospect to tell stories set after the second The X-Files movie, especially after Joe Harris worked up such a great plan in that regard. But my excitement level went off the charts after a meeting with Chris Carter, where he agreed to come aboard and executive produce our Season 10. In much the same way Joss Whedon steered our Angel: After the Fall series, Chris has graciously returned to do the same here. What do The X-Files look like in this increasingly paranoid and untrusting post-Wikileaks era? Well, they look like canon to me… and come June, the rest of the world will be able to see it for themselves, too.
Season 10’s opening arc, titled “Believers,” finds Mulder and Scully currently living together under secret identities when an old friend stops by and threatens their secrecy, telling them that someone is preying upon those involved with the X-Files. Expect surprises, fan-favorite characters, and a “mystery designed to return the beloved franchise to its former glory!” I’ll be there with alleged alien bells on.
