It has finally arrived, sort of… While Edgar Wright’s The World’s End doesn’t open in the States until the end of August, the science fiction film will be released in the U.K. a month earlier, in July. To build awareness of the film overseas, Universal has released the first teaser trailer for the third and final installment in the Three Flavours Cornetto (Blood and Ice Cream) trilogyThe World’s End.

A few days ago, we posted an article about the new international quad poster for the upcoming sci-fi film. In the post, we speculated about the glowing blue-eyed people in the background of the poster; were they zombies, or aliens? The teaser trailer above revealed that they are some sort of alien race. It looks like something out of Children of the Corn mixed with an alien invasion movie, with lots and lots of drinking.

Needless to say, this trailer looks great, and The World’s End is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated comedies of the summer. Forget about This Is the End or The Hangover: Part III, it’s all about The World’s End. The last bit of the trailer reveals the “jumping over the fence” gag that was used in both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, so it’s good to see that Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg continue that joke in the trilogy.

The new film follows Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man caught in arrested development. He summons his old friends to relive their glory days and recreate an epic pub-crawl of their youth that they didn’t complete. Little do they know that the fate of the world is in their hands, as their hometown is the center of an alien invasion. The World’s End will also feature Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Marsan, David Bradley, and Paddy Considine.

The World’s End will hit theaters in the U.S. on August 23th. Watch the fence jumping gag from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz below:
