The trailers simply sucked. Had I not known the novels, I would have assumed it was a straight-to-video western made by first-year students in a third tier film studies program.

And the title? Whomever made the decision to hide the “Mars” aspect of the film even in the title should probably be disqualified from any future decision-making role in Hollywood.

The movie itself, while suffering from all the same slapstick missteps that Disney movies are contractually required to have, made up for it with astounding special effects, great action, and realized images from the books I never thought would come alive on film.
