2. Star Trek is about relationships and big, relevant sociological ideas. Star Trek is about humanity. Star Wars is really just an adventure movie.

star wars - called the "story of darth vader" by lucas is certainly about humanity. We see darth vader as a innocent boy. a lot of bad stuff happens in his life and he develops flaws - like we all do. A devious, manipulative man plays on these flaws for his own advantedge. because of this anakin turns to darth vader. years go by and vaders son luke fights a war against the empire vader serves. this causes vader to question his loyaltys. but he is so far in the evil, he sees know way out. his conscience and his pragmatism battle it out, until at the defining moment of the war he acts againts evil and sacrifices himself to kill the emperor. He pleads with luke to forgive him, and he is forgiven.

A young boy turned to evil by his surroundings, the struggle within him between good and evil, and his redemption and forgiveness - how the hell is that not a human story????

I am a star wars fan well above trek but that's not why I think it's better :). I don't even like Star Trek but I readily admit it does deal with a wide wide variety of issues, had great characters, storylines and was played by at least two of the best T.V. actors of all time (leonard and william). However, the originals (if we include prequels I'm not having this conversation) were only three movies. Any spin offs were miniature. Star Trek had a host of movies, a popular T.V. series, and plenty of spin offs. It had plenty of space to cover a lot more issues. Also, it was about the human race so it could cover issues related to humanity. Star Wars wasn't about the human race so it is understandable if it didn't deal with humanity quite like Trek. But it did deal with big universal issues and packed an amazing amount into just three movies.

WS can say whatever he wants, he's certainly EARNED the right to do so, but for me, both MOVIES stand on thier own, had (somewhat) good writing, character development, dialogue and plots which kept the fans coming back for more. That being said, I'll always be a far greater fan of 'Trek' than I ever will be of 'Wars', because I was brought-up on the original TV series, and followed the main characters as if they were 'family' (of sorts)...something I could never do with the 'Wars' characters.
