“Christmas at Ground Zero”
What should be one of the most depressing songs ever created, Polka Party‘s “Christmas at Ground Zero” remains a post-apocalyptic holiday favorite for Weird Al fans, as it presents a society where there’s no need to run out and get Christmas presents or go on unwanted visits to family members’ homes. Of course, that’s mostly because everyone’s family would be dead due to nuclear warfare, along with anyone who worked in the stores where Christmas presents could be bought, but the thought of getting to “duck and cover with my Yuletide lover” is a nice one anyway.

“Slime Creatures from Outer Space”
A throwback paying tribute to over-the-top sci-fi features of the 1950s, “Slime Creatures from Outer Space” has a pretty simple “plot” — slime creatures come down to Earth and suck brains through straws — but it’s the way the song is composed that makes this a memorable entry in Weird Al’s discography. That this sonic sub-masterpiece led into the Cyndi Lauper spoof “Girls Just Want to Have Lunch” on Dare to be Stupid was always somewhat disappointing to me.
