The Walking Dead Returns To Put One Of Its Own In The Dirt: This Week’s TV Picks

AMC’s The Walking Dead returns from winter hiatus this week, digging up an episode with the cumbersome title of “What Happened and What’s Going On.” We join Rick and company in the aftermath of tragedy, putting one of their own in the ground and once again alone in the wilderness with no sign of sanctuary. The enigmatic official episode synopsis doesn’t provide many clues as to what to expect: “After the recent trials the group has faced, a slight detour could be the solution they’ve been searching for.”

Rumors suggest the “detour” Rick and company will be taking is to a place called “Shirewilt Estates,” which I’m willing to bet isn’t as peaceful and pastoral as the name might suggest. And given that the synopsis for next week’s episode begins “The group feels beaten after living life on the road,” it’s pretty clear Shirewilt isn’t going to be any more welcoming than anywhere else Rick and the survivors have sought a safe haven. It’s a feel-good show, really…

Face Off (Syfy, 9/8c) — “Royal Flush”
The first individual Spotlight Challenge of the competition finds the 13 remaining artists tasked with making playing cards come alive in the whimsical style of Tim Burton.
The Flash (The CW, 8/7c) — “Crazy for You”
Caitlin takes Barry out to a local karaoke bar to help them both find new loves. Caitlin strikes out but Barry meets a sports reporter and asks her out for a date. Meanwhile, Cisco considers Hartley’s dangerous offer; and the team search for Shawna, a meta-human with teleportation powers who just busted her boyfriend out of Iron Heights.
Marvel’s Agent Carter (ABC, 9/8c) — “The Iron Ceiling”
Peggy requests backup after she receives her first mission.
Person of Interest (CBS, 10/9c) — “M.I.A.”
Reese and Root search for Shaw in a small town in upstate New York where it becomes apparent that not everything is as idyllic as it seems. Meanwhile, Fusco partners with a former POI to tackle the newest number.
Supernatural (The CW, 9/8c) — “About a Boy”
Sam and Dean investigate when people suddenly disappear into thin air with only their clothes left behind. Their probe reveals that Hansel, from Hansel and Gretel lore, is kidnapping people and turning them into their younger selves to placate an evil witch. Unfortunately, Dean finds the information out the hard way when he becomes Hansel’s next victim and reverts to being his 14-year-old self.

Team Arrow considers Malcolm’s offer to help shut Brick down, but Felicity is against the idea, even though the team could use help to save the innocents of the Glades.
