It’s called The Walking Dead and it’s getting ready to come back for a season 5. Shocking, I know, it’s not like there’s been a ton of teasers, posters, or photos indicating that such a thing was happening, right? That’s why this new gallery of stills from the series came as such a surprise, but here they are.

Okay, I’m done trying to be funny, I promise. (An ex once told me, “oh dear, you’re just not funny,” and all of my friends and roommates apparently agreed. I thought I was hilarious, but I was wrong.) But The Walking Dead is coming back (it’s not funny either, so we’re kindred spirits in that regard), and there are even more photos, this time from AMC and Spoiler TV.

If you’re a diehard fan, you’ve already rewatched season 4 a dozen times on Blu-ray, and are counting down the seconds until the season premiere on October 12, you might be interested in these photos. Otherwise, however, they don’t present anything you haven’t seen before. At least the trailers and some of the other images we’ve seen give you hints about the future of the characters, what you can expect to see this season, and the overall direction of the series, but this group is just feels like a random assortment of stills picked out of a hat.

We’ve seen Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), the leader of a rag tag group of zombie apocalypse survivors, get closer and closer to the total badass that the is in Robert Kirkman’s comics that serve as the source material for the series. In this photo, brandishing a machine gun, his transformation from wishy-washy and indecisive to man of action looks to be pretty complete. And he also looks more than a little bit insane, which is something else we can get behind.

the-walking-dead-season-5-ten-new-photos1When the season 5 starts out, we’re going to pick up right where season 4 left off, with Rick and company imprisoned at Terminus. Here you see the handsome, but sinister leader of Terminus, Gareth (Andrew J. West), with Rick and Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.). We’ve seen similar images before.

He’s turning into a nice little sociopath, though, which should be fun to continue to watch. Then again, when you kill your zombified mother, something is bound to shake loose inside.

They were on their way last time we saw them, so you have to wonder if they’ll get there eventually. We’ve seen photos of them with the others, so it’s safe to assume they all reunite before too awful long.

And finally, season 4 introduced a trio of new characters, including Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos), pictured here, and while, in the comics, they form an integral part of the narrative moving forward, they really weren’t given anything to do. One of the things we hope to see in season 5, is for Rosita, along with Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt), to actually be integrated into the story and the action. They’re great characters on the page, so it would be a shame not to use them on the boob tube.
