These Walking Dead Promos For Next Week’s Episode Show Distrust And Caution

There are big things afoot in the world of The Walking Dead. The series is about to undergo one of the most monumental changes the group has ever gone through, and it is one that will have a lasting impact. To tease the next episode, “Remember,” AMC has unveiled a new promo and a fresh clip from next week’s installment. Just a warning, there will be spoilers for those of you not current on The Walking Dead, so proceed with caution.
This first video is more of a traditional promo, the one that aired at the end of last week’s episode in order to get you salivating for the next chapter. It shows the general air of distrust Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and the rest of the core group has as they move into their new digs.
Granted, after Woodbury and Terminus, neither of which played out so well for them, they’re right to be cautious going forward. You see wounds that are going to linger for a long while. From everything they’ve been through, even in a place that seems secure and that should be safe, it’s going to take them a long time to feel at ease, if they ever get there.
This clip from “Remember” drives home many of the same issues as the promo. Carl (Chandler Riggs) doesn’t quite feel safe, and he’ll probably be checking closets for a long, long while. Though that’s probably not an entirely bad habit to develop in a world where there are very real monsters that could in fact be lurking in the shadows or underneath your bed. It’s also weird to see them in such a clean, tidy place. They’re not used to people having time to sweep up, or that even being a priority or an option.
I’m a fan of this new narrative move. A new place and new people provides a ton of opportunities to do something new and different and to move in directions, especially character wise, that weren’t viable or available before. There’s only so many times you can start, stop, settle down, and move on again before it gets stale, and The Walking Dead has done this so many times over the last five years that it’s run its course and they need to start thinking in new ways, which it definitely appears they’re doing in season 5.
