The Walking Dead Bows Out And Helix Marathons Season 1: This Week’s TV Picks

With Turkey Day nearly upon us, it’s not a hugely eventful week on the TV front. But if you’re going to be traveling this weekend, remember to set the DVR, because AMC’s The Walking Dead will be airing its midseason finale this coming Sunday with an episode called “Coda.” Unsurprisingly, the official synopsis isn’t exactly brimming with details:

Rick seeks a peaceful agreement when rules and morals are tossed aside by new enemies.

I’m intrigued by the “new enemies” thing. For most of this season, the group’s primary enemies were the Hunters/Terminus people, and their leadership recently suffered a machete-related setback. Now they’re butting heads with the hospital folks in Atlanta, but are they the “new enemies” in question, or is there another surprise waiting in the wings? There have certainly been persistent rumors that one of the most notorious bad guys from the comics, Neegan, would eventually turn up. It’s probably just a deliberately vague reference to the hospital people, but you never know — they do like to leave their midseason finales with something truly shocking.

If you prefer your zombies in colder climates, you can set the DVR for Friday at 6 AM (5 AM Central), because Syfy is airing a “Black Goo Friday” marathon of Helix’s first season. If you skipped the show during its original run, or even bailed partway through, this is a perfect excuse to catch up if you’re curious to check out season two, which premieres on January 16. (Of course, if you’re a subscriber, you can just watch it on Netflix Instant whenever you like.) The marathon will include cast interviews and a sneak peek at season 2.
