sean-beanAfter the box office failure of Cloud Atlas, perhaps the new film from Andy and Lana Wachowski will be more appealing to general audiences. What better way to catch people’s eye than by casting an iconic screen presence from HBO’s Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings film trilogy?

According to Deadline, actor Sean Bean will join the cast of the Wachowskis’ new science fiction film Jupiter Ascending. Bean will play Stinger, a “Han Solo-type” character. Bean will be added to the all-star cast including Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, and Eddie Redmayne.

At this point, there is not a lot known about the Wachowskis’ follow up to Cloud Atlas. Some reports describe the film to be set in the future where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, and a woman is the target for assassination by the queen of the universe. It sounds intriguing albeit somewhat vague.

Sean Bean has been featured in some of the biggest movies this past decade including the aforementioned Lord of the Rings trilogy, National Treasure, and the very underrated film from Michael Bay, The Island. SPOLIER ALERT WARNING: If you follow Sean Bean’s career, then you know he almost always dies in his movies. Don’t be surprised if the same thing happens to him in Jupiter Ascending.

The movie Jupiter Ascending is set to start production during the spring this year, with the yet-to-be determined release date in 2014. The movie will be the first pure science fiction film the Wachowskis will tackle since the release of The Matrix Revolutions in 2003. Let’s hope Jupiter Ascending will be a better film than the third Matrix movie.
