Help Unmake History With These 12 Monkeys Promos

Syfy’s 12 Monkeys is now less than two weeks away, and the network is doing their damndest to hype up their latest foray into creating original content. We recently explored some of the ways the show will be different from Terry Gilliam’s 1995 film, and now there’s this short video tease, as well as some new images that shed light on the world the series tries to create.

This video doesn’t really do much besides hint at some action and dangle the idea of fate out there for the audience. Like the film, the premise revolves around a future world decimated by a vicious plague, where the survivors send James Cole (Aaron Stanford) back in time on a mission to prevent this pandemic, thus saving the human race.

What we know about this particular disease up to this point isn’t much, but that’s changing. Syfy recently posted a “wall” that is full of all kinds of articles about the disease, how it spreads, and much more information that offers a bit of background into the world they’re building. You can also see where there is room for them to add much more as we get closer to the premiere. From some of the articles posted, you learn about this disease, the Kalavirus, it’s origins, how it developed and made its way across the globe, and just how deadly it is. Take a few moments to click HERE and explore.

12 MonkeysThe 12 Monkeys Facebook page is also spreading the word. Like the film, we know that the time travel technology is not exactly foolproof, and is fairly theoretical at this point. And though they hope that by sending Cole back he will be able to change the future, there are some competing theories, as broken down here:

12 MonkeysOne key difference between the film and show that fans have noticed is that in the film, Cole is trapped in a fixed time loop, unable to truly affect change, while the opposite appears to be true in the show. But looking at this, that may not be the precise case, and it looks like the true nature and impact of time travel will be one of the things we discover along the way.

Another alteration is that psychiatrist Dr. Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe) from the film has now become Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull), a virologist with the CDC. Aside from the much more on the nose name (in mythology Cassandra is doomed to know the future), a specialist of this sort is, as you can imagine, much more useful in helping to prevent a global viral outbreak.

12 MonkeysSyfy is also using the #UnmakeHistory hashtag, asking viewers what they would change if they could go back in time, and they use various historical examples like Pearl Harbor…

12 Monkeys…the Great Depression…

12 Monkeys…the Lindbergh Kidnapping…

12 Monkeys…and others, all with that memorable Army of the 12 Monkeys logo superimposed.
