When you think of Tyler Perry you probably think: Actor, writer, director… guy who likes to run around in a dress. You probably don’t think science fiction fan. Sure he had that brief appearance in the 2009 Star Trek reboot as Starfleet Academy head Admiral Richard Barnett, but he’s still mostly thought of as that guy in the dress.

We don’t know whether Perry will be back in the next Star Trek movie but we do know he wants to do more science fiction. In an interview with BlackFilm.com, Tyler Perry expresses his love for the the science fiction genre, his love for the Alien franchise and disappointment with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

I love Sci Fi, I love the Alien movies and the Alien franchise. I was very disappointed with Prometheus, but I love that whole franchise. Those are my favorite movies. I’m actually working on a sci-fi movie right now.

He loves Sci-Fi so much that, apparently, he wants to move on from making the family dramas he’s known for and make an SF movie of his own. Perry says…

I’m writing a sci-fi movie that I’m really excited about.

He doesn’t offer any further details so there’s no telling when or if this sci-fi project will actually be released. Here’s hoping he finds a way to bring his diversity message to outer space without wearing a dress. Madea in Spaaaace anyone?

  1. Ryan guy likes sci fi says:

Whatever he does with sci fi, I am sure it will have some women in it who are victims and end up being empowered and swept off of their feet by some metrosexual dude.

This just in…. Tyler Perry brings his irritating brand of comedy that only gay guys and old black ladies find funny to science fiction. Then again, the one more serious movie I saw that he made (one with Janet Jackson and skinny and mean Michael Clark Duncan) was no worse than a standard chic flic so maybe he could make an ok sci fi film. I just can’t stand his comedy, it makes Nickelodeon’s All That look like Woody Allen.
