Twilight Zone Retro Action Figures Are Submitted For Your Approval

Zone1Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone has been through several incarnations over the years, some good (the ’80s revival that featured writers such as Babylon 5’s J. Michael Straczynski, Harlan Ellison, Farscape’s Rockne S. O’Bannon, and Game of Thrones’ George R.R. Martin) and some not so good (UPN’s 2002 version). There are new versions in development as we speak, one for television (from Bryan Singer) and one a movie, and there’s even a comic series (penned by none other than the aforementioned JMS). But regardless of how any of those turn out, this summer you’ll be able to take home the Zone in action-figure form.

Toy company Big Bang Pow! has announced a new line retro-styled Twilight Zone action figures that are due out this summer, and they look great. Rendered in black and white, just like the show they’re pulled from, the figures sport sculpting that makes them at least slightly resemble the actors they’re portraying…which isn’t always a given when it comes to this sort of thing. Some of the show’s most iconic moments are represented in this collection, including Burgess Meredith from “Time Enough at Last” (with a pair of books as accessories) and both William Shatner and the gremlin from “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.”

The action figures are 3.75″ scale, so the same size as the classic Kenner Star Wars figures. They’re due out this August and will go for $9.99 a pop. You can pre-order them over at Entertainment Earth. Check out the rest of the lineup below and thank your lucky stars that these guys didn’t make them.

The Invader is, appropriately enough, from the 1961 episode entitled “The Invaders.” He comes with “light stick accessories” that glow in the dark.

Kanamit is from the unforgettable — and often parodied — “To Serve Man,” which gave us the immortal line, “It’s a cookbook!” The site doesn’t specify, but it looks like his accessory is a tiny copy of the titular tome.

“Talky Tina” is from the episode “Living Doll.” I don’t see any extra doodads in her picture, so I’m assuming she comes with a set of nightmares. Don’t blink…

Twilight-Zone-Gremlin-action-figure

Last but certainly not least is the second figure from “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” the pesky gremlin who was lurking on William Shatner’s wing. I’d recommend keeping him away from any electrical devices you might have in your home. Also don’t get him wet, feet him after midnight, or expose him to bright lights. Sure, that was a different type of gremlin, but better safe than sorry.
