The Twilight Zone Invades TV And Comics: Today In Science & Science Fiction

There are a lot of folks having a lazy afternoon right about now, enjoying a vacation day and nursing that hangover from the New Year’s Eve celebrations last night. If that hangover is substantial enough that you’re having trouble even deciding how to while away your time, GFR has got your back. Syfy is continuing the second day of their Twilight Zone marathon, airing classic episodes such as “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” where William Shatner has a nasty encounter with a gremlin on the wing of his passenger plane. The marathon runs into the wee hours of the night, so set the DVR for eps you might wanna watch later. (Or just watch them on Netflix or Hulu.)
Meanwhile, The Twilight Zone is also infiltrating the comics page. Today sees the launch of Dynamite Comics’ new TZ comic series, penned by no less than Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. TZ creator Rod Serling is one of JMS’ idols, and Joe also has some experience in the Zone, having worked on the underrated ‘80s relaunch of the series. The Twilight Zone, Issue One: Trevor Richmond is a Wall Street investor who embezzled millions and is about to tank the economy. Again. But what exactly is this new life, how much is freedom worth, and what happens to the old life when someone else shows up to claim it? Meanwhile, AMC’s Walking Dead marathon also continues, all the way through midnight. As I type this, one of the show’s best episodes, “Clear” is just about to begin. From there, the marathon will continue through the end of the third season and into the first batch of episodes from the most recent fourth season. Granted, they’re going to stop at a weird and arbitrary point, so this isn’t the best way to play catch-up if you haven’t watched the show in a while. But hey, it’s something to do that doesn’t require you to get up off the couch.
