original-tronOne of the better animated feature films of last year was Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph. The animated video game-centric movie was a big hit for the Mouse House and was nominated for an Academy Award. It seems like its sequel will feature a cameo appearance from our favorite gaming early 80s computer program.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore admitted that he would love to have Tron pop up somewhere in the film’s sequel. Moore continued to say that he originally wanted Tron in the first film but was unable to lock down a deal to get him in the movie. It probably had something to do with getting trapped in the grid. Moore revealed,

I can’t specifically remember why that didn’t happen,” Moore said. “Of course, with a sequel, I’m hoping that we can find a way to see Tron himself in that movie.

It’s unclear how difficult it was to secure Tron for Wreck-It Ralph, but considering both properties sport the Disney brand, it wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine. Along with Tron, Moore explained that he would also like Nintendo’s icon and mascot Mario in the Wreck-It Ralph sequel as well.

The Disney animated film is quickly becoming the Toy Story or Who Framed Roger Rabbit? of video game movies. Nevertheless, Wreck-It Ralph was a smash hit for Disney, taking in a reported $375 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, Tron 3 doesn’t seem to have the momentum it did a few months ago. The project has a script in place with screenwriter David DiGilio submitting an early draft and director Joseph Kosinski and Garrett Hedlund attached to the project. Tron 3 will most likely ramp up production after the release of Kosinski’s current film Oblivion hits theaters.
