Attention all cosplayers, you now have two options in front of you. First, you can step up your game—and we’re talking way, way up—or you can just flat out quit. Why would we make such a statement, you may ask, because this guy in his Transformers costume, just totally won. By a mile, or a landslide, or whatever cliché you want to use. Any way you care to look at it, this is going to be hard to be beat. See, his outfit actually transforms.

This guy was spotted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where his antics delighted some young passersby. In fact this 30 second video is already much more engaging and entertaining than Michael Bay’s giant mech movies. Maybe I’ll just watch this for two hours instead of going to see Age of Extinction. Not only is this guy dressed like a Bumble Bee from the series, but when he flips his lid, the robot actually converts into a car and rolls around. The design is relatively simple, but the end result is exactly what you want out of a costume, and maybe even a vehicle.

Cosplay is a pretty hit and miss proposition. For every outfit like this, that takes time and effort and where you can tell that the person obviously put in a lot of time and effort, you get some half-assed, thrown together looks. Not to crap all over people who want to express their fandom, but don’t necessarily have the skills, time, or resources to create something like this—I certainly couldn’t come up with anything even close to this—but I did recently have a conversation with some friends about what they called the “Lazy Joker” phenomenon at gatherings and conventions.

Our fearless leader David recently attended a comic con in Dallas, and, as you can probably imagine, there was all kinds of crazy cosplay in the house.

TribblesFor example, there was this inventive original Star Trek outfit that pays homage to the infamous episode “The Trouble with Tribbles.” This is way better than just slapping on a Star Fleet uniform or some cheap-looking Vulcan ears. This took some planning, and I can’t help but wonder how he took a leak in this thing. Then again, maybe he just stocked up on adult diapers before the weekend began.

GodzillaAnd, of course, given the biggest movie at the box office this weekend, there was bound to be some Godzilla costumes as well, and, at least this one, went all out. What this outfit really needs is someone to run in front of it and set down little cardboard buildings to stomp through.
