Transformers: Age of Extinction Footage Screened At A Detroit Elementary School

While Michael Bay wrapped production on Transformers: Age of Extinction a few weeks ago, the new Transformers movie still has a presence in the city of Detroit. As we all know, Detroit is going through some tough times, so anything to inspire or drive its residence to re-building the city is all for the better. Apparently, Age of Extinction is lending a helping hand to Detroit’s youth.
According to The Detroit Hub, one of Age of Extinction‘s co-producers, Allegra Clegg, visited the children of Durfee Elementary-Middle School in a promotional campaign by Paramount to encourage school attendance. While at the school, Clegg screened three minutes of footage from the upcoming Transformers movie to the school’s students.
Clegg also gave the students advice on how to break into the film industry, and how making movies can help your community. “It takes thousands of people to make a movie like Transformers. The entire community has to come together to make it a success,” said Clegg. “Detroit and Michigan are great places to shoot a project.” The Detroit Hub writes:
When it came time for questions, the kids started out a little shy, but warmed up quickly. They grilled Clegg on everything from how the film’s robots were named to how she got into the business to how they could get a job in Hollywood and what they needed to study now as elementary and middle schoolers to someday do what she is doing.
Detroit is the first (and hopefully the last) major city to declare bankruptcy in the United States, so it’s good to see that Paramount and the Transformers people reaching out to the community. Setting up production in Michigan and Detroit went a long way to creating new jobs and kick-starting the city’s failing economy, but more has to be done to save Detroit.
While it’s unclear what footage was screened for the Durfee students, it’s good to see children learning about how movies are made. It’s very important to the art form and the film industry, while it also helps to build awareness for the new movie, so getting “two birds with one stone” isn’t necessarily a bad thing in this scenario.
Recently, a new image of a mysterious sword emerged from Age of Extinction‘s production. Many believe that it could be the Star Saber. In Transformers mythology, the Star Saber is a powerful weapon that was shattered into five pieces. It gives whoever reassembles it ridiculous power over the multiverse. The Star Saber could be the new Allspark of the new trilogy.
Age of Extinction takes place four years after Dark of the Moon. The film centers on an inventor named Cade, his teenaged daughter Tessa, and her boyfriend Shane, as they “discover a buried Transformer which sets the stage for the return of the rest of the Transformers.” The new Transformers film features new Autobots and Decepticons, including the Dinobots and the villain Cyclonus. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, and Nicola Peltz, as well as Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, Li Bingbing, Titus Welliver, Kelsey Grammer, and Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
