DinobotsAs production gets underway on the fourth installment of the Transformers film franchise, there are still plenty of rumors surrounding what secrets the sequel might hold. A few days ago, a leaked call sheet hinted at an appearance by the the Dinobots, and their appearance has now been confirmed by one of the film’s producers. Moreover, newly registered URLs suggest several possible titles for the film, including Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that Transformers 4 will indeed include the Dinobots during an interview with Beijing News. That story appears to be offline as of this writing, which may or may not mean anything. Here’s the quote:

I cannot disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the joining of the Dinobots will give the audience new excitement. In addition to Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, the appearance of these classic roles changed, today the world’s coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including China’s vehicles, whether you are a car enthusiast, you will feast your eyes and be shocked by them.

This also follows a a leaked internal document from Toys R’ Us last week that added fuel to the Dinobots rumors, mentioning “Dinobot-themed” toys, plus two more Transformers movies. “Me Grimlock, so happy to be in limelight!”

The addition of the Dinobots tracks with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner’s earlier statements that Transformers 4 would introduce new Autobots and Decepticons in order to help boost toy sales. In spite of Dark of the Moon grossing $1.1 billion worldwide, Goldner has said that it didn’t generate the sales Hasbro was hoping for.

Meanwhile, Fusible.com noticed that Paramount Pictures had registered a few domain names for the upcoming Transformers film. They include TransformersApocalypse.com,
TransformersLastStand.com, and TransformersFutureCast.com. Transformers fan site TFW2005.com noticed that Hasbro has also applied for several trademarks, adding Transformers: Age of Extinction to the list of possible title contenders. While nothing has been confirmed by Paramount yet, Age of Extinction would certainly make sense with the involvement of the Dinobots.

However, that sounds way too close to The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Considering that The Avengers sequel isn’t due in theaters until 2015, maybe Paramount and Hasbro want to cash in on the similar title before Marvel gets a chance.

According to director Michael Bay, Transformers 4 will take place four years after the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. There are a few rumors that suggest the sequel may also feature the epic civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons back on their home planet of Cybertron. The Transformer civil war has been mentioned throughout the film series, and it also played a small role in Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The new Transformers movie, which Michael Bay describes as a “chase from hell,” features actors Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Brenton Thwaites, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, and Kelsey Grammer as CIA Agent Harold Attinger.

Transformers 4 will hit theaters everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
