This Trailer For Syfy’s The Expanse Has Zero-Gravity Sex And Deep-Space Mystery
If you’ve read this site with any regularity over the past year or so, you’re well aware that Syfy is in the process of upping its original content game exponentially. They have more than a dozen potentially awesome sci-fi shows in various stages of development, including everything from deep space adventure to alien invasions to time travel, clones, and more. Just the other day they added an Escape From New York-sounding series, and we just came across news of another one earlier today. One of the projects we’re most excited about, however, is The Expanse, and they just delivered this new trailer.
Based on the Hugo and Locus Award winning novels of James S.A. Corey (the collective pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), The Expanse is a thriller that takes place 200 years in the future in a fully colonized solar system. Detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), is tasked with finding a missing heiress named Juliette Andromeda Mao (Florence Faivre). Unraveling the mystery takes him all over the galaxy, and he uncovers a vast conspiracy that adds strain to an already tense relationship between Earth, Mars, and the people of the asteroid belt.
The trailer is kind of a mess, and you never really get a solid idea of who is fighting whom, or what characters are friends or enemies, but you do get Tom Jane in a sweet fedora and a sex scene without the hindrance of gravity. That’s a good time indeed.
Recently, the event series Ascension disappointed many Syfy viewers (admittedly, I still haven’t watched it, though I know plot twist, which makes me skeptical, but I’ll get to it eventually), but we have high hopes for this hour-long, ten-episode series. There’s a fantastic cast with Jane, Shohreh Aghdashloo Steven Strait, Wes Chatham, Paulo Costanzo, Chad Coleman, Jared Harris, and Mike Ehrmantraut. Add to that a sprawling story, an elaborate world, a far-reaching conspiracy, and the political intrigue of a system wide uprising, and you’ve got our attention.
Syfy shows have the reputation for being cheap and shoddy, but, at least what we can see in this trailer, The Expanse looks like pretty solid in that regard. The zero gravity scenes look well done, and you get a couple of glimpse of epic, deep space wide shots full of planets, asteroids, moons, and the like.
There’s no set premiere date for The Expanse just yet, but it should drop sometime this year, and the idea of a hard-boiled crime story set in deep space sounds like a good time to us. Do you like the look of this footage? Do you plan to tune in whenever it airs?
