Watch The First Trailer For Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel

The first trailer for Prometheus has arrived, sort of. The video below is the full and complete trailer, but right now it’s only in bootlegged format. Hopefully Fox will release the whole thing in official, high-defintion soon, but if you just can’t wait… watch it now while it lasts…

“They went looking for Earth’s beginning. What they found, could be its end.” Great tagline. You know that’s going to end up on the poster.

It’s hard not to notice the influence of Inception’s trailers from last year at work here. Remember how those flashed images from the film in between those epic, horn blasts? Prometheus does pretty much the same thing.

Here’s that Inception trailer for comparison, just in case you’ve forgotten:

In addition to some audio similarities to Inception the Prometheus trailer also echoes the original trailer for Alien. It’s probably been awhile since you’ve seen it, so here’s how Ridley advertised the first entry in the franchise way back in 1979…

Keep checking back with GFR, we’ll have the Prometheus trailer available in high-res as soon as Fox lets the world have it.

It echoes the original trailer for alien more than Inception, in my opinion.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oYNvmNZP2o At the 60 second mark, you’ll see the same editing techniques as well as similar music cues.

    • JT says:

Visually yes, but I don’t think the music cues are the same. The timing of them, sure, but the big blast noise is pure Inception.

I’ll add your video to the post so people can compare.

  2. That is impossible to watch. I hope the official version gets released soon!

  3. Nick says:

prequel is far too advanced to the original AGAIN. Poor trailer recording too.

  4. could be “it is” end? c’mon fox, you’re better than that.

  5. Tom Thumb says:

    Inception horn blasts… how ‘original’.

What for trailer 2?  Requiem For A Dream??  -_-

  6. Jon45 says:

Can we get some more bwaaaaaaaaaaaam – http://inception.davepedu.com/ please?

  7. R Doucette says:

I don’t give a shit if it uses an inception horn or not, it’s about damn time Ridley got back in to Sci Fi.

I was under the impression that he wanted to do a completely separate Sci Fi story though and ditched the whole prequel idea.

  8. I hope you all understand this isn’t a prequel. Its its own franchise. Started off in preproduction as a prequel until that Idea was scraped. Get your facts right people.

  9. The trailer isn’t finished, so the music may only be temporary. Remember that LOTR only ended up with the orchestrated Lux Aeterna from RFAD because the editor was using that track as a substitute at the editing process and everyone thought it worked perfectly. When the finished article appears it may have completely different audio. No point slagging a workprint.

  10. Sizza says:

The Prometheus score is better than the inception one, and the similarity is just subjective and in the mind. Personally speaking, I  didnt relate the two at all. I loved how the Prometheus score drew on the first two films in the franchise and I hope to God they keep it.

Why are are twentieth century fox bothered if you show a trailer or not  ? its free advertisement for an up coming film.

  12. Macdon 1 says:

prob would be good if it hadn’t been removed.. :(
