Trailer For Post-Apocalyptic Indian Short Luminous Matter

Check out this brief trailer for Luminous Matter, an animated, post-apocalyptic short from India. Not set in the future, this film imagines a parallel present, where humans no longer exist, thanks to weapons of mass destruction, and a new species is the dominant life form, struggling to exist.

The world is completely decimated, and out of the radioactive ashes and waste evolution springs anew, spawning self-sustaining entities. This is “[t]he story of the last survivor of an endangered species called Ouraosteus Lutessentia who is being hunted down by a superior predatorily race of Ouraosteus Ablissentia.” The final living Lutessentia must cling to life and attempt to thrive in this harsh environment.

This clip is more like an introduction than an actual trailer, like a voiceover you would hear before the opening credits, to set things up before dropping you into the middle of the action. There’s not a whole lot of detail aside from what’s written above. The website at the end of the clip is under construction, I can’t find much more info than this trailer, and all the information here is vague at best.

The one thing this trailer does have going for it, however, is that it looks beautiful. I dig this layered style of animation, and the shifting color scheme. This seems like something I would watch and enjoy. It may be esoteric and a little nebulous at times, but it’s pretty, which makes it exponentially more watchable. Especially in a short, that fact alone can make up for a lot.
