Tom Cruise Will Wake You Up In This Oblivion Clip

How would you react if you woke up out of a deep sleep—we’re talking about a six-decade nap here—and found yourself in a creepy, sterile lab, with Tom Cruise looming over you? Your response might look something like this new clip from Joseph Kosinski’s (Tron: Legacy) new sci-fi adventure, Oblivion.

The video shows Julia (Olga Kurylenko) in that exact scenario. After her spaceship, or pod or whatever, crashes to Earth, Jack Harper (Cruise) rescues her. She regains consciousness in the Skytower, where Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) attempts to poke her with a fancy, futuristic hypodermic needle, presumably loaded with a sedative. As you can imagine, Julia isn’t super psyched about the situation.

Oblivion is set 60 years after the conclusion of a cataclysmic war between the citizens of Earth and a terrifying enemy known as Scavs. Though the human race emerges victorious, the planet is rendered uninhabitable and the population abandons their home planet. Harper is one of the few remaining souls on the planet. A drone repairman, he and his compatriots live high above the surface of the Earth, and are tasked with procuring valuable resources that are vital to the future of humanity. With his mission drawing to a close, Harper doesn’t want to leave, having become fond of the beautiful planet that should have been his home. When a lovely stranger—Julia—crashes, it kicks off an action-packed cycle of events that force him to step up and become the savior of the human race. Or not. Sounds like a good time to me, and it has an awesome score to boot. Bonus.

Also starring Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Zoe Bell, Oblivion lands in theaters, in IMAX, on April 19th.
