Time Of The Doctor Pics Have Christmas Cheer And A Curiously Prominent Cyberman Head

Well, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. Unfortunately: Cybermen, everydamnwhere. Wouldn’t you just know it, even after the cathartic journey of The Day of the Doctor, can the poor guy have just one Christmas where he can relax and maybe go accidentally invent egg nog or something? No, no he cannot. Because that’s not how this whole Christmas special thing works, people, and thus we come full circle: Cybermen, everydamnwhere.
Yes, The Time of the Doctor is nigh, but since it’s not quite nigh enough just yet, the BBC has released a bunch of new images from the special, as well as like half a dozen versions of the poster, which may seem like overkill until you realize they’re actually distinct posters from slightly different alternate timelines. The biggest question I’ve got: what’s up with the severed Cyberman head the Doctor seems to be dragging around everywhere?
It’s obviously more than just the aftermath of an action sequence that he keeps forgetting to set down, because it’s featured in all the posters and in two of the new images. Thereupon hinges a plot development, we imagine. We know that the Christmas special will pit the Doctor against Daleks and Cybermen and Weeping Angels and the Silence, which leaves us two factions short of a Sinister Six but still gives the Doctor plenty to keep busy.
We know from the teasers that Trenzalore will factor in, and that Matt Smith’s will be regenerating into Peter Capaldi, so we’re guessing a somewhat tragic finale should be expected. There are also crazy rumors involving a centuries-long war and a revelation that will tackle that whole 12-regeneration rule head on and, presumably, circumvent it so the Doctor can keep right on regenerating until kingdom come.
