The Terminator Salvation Ending That Might Have Been
Before Terminator Salvation even started filming, there were rumors about the plot. One particularly prevalent rumor included a complete reveal of the movie’s ending, in which John Connor became a Terminator. Warner Bros. and the film’s director McG quickly denied everything but now they’re coming clean: It was all true.
They’ve since rewritten the script to save us from this abortion, but talking to Sci-Fi Wire McG admits the ending that might have been.
We had a jet-black ending. Connor dies, we’re in a room with all the people we care about. You take Connor’s likeness, you put it on the living machine of Marcus. He sits up now looking like Christian Bale, takes a gun, kills Kate, kills Kyle, kills Star, kills everybody, eyes flare red, the end.
Apparently they even went so far as to shoot this ending. It could still end up on the DVD. McG says: “I haven’t decided. Just take a deep breath. Imagine that’s the ending. I would hope the oxygen would just go right out. You’d be like, ‘They can’t do [that]. That was the biggest bummer I’ve ever seen in my life.”
