Terminator: Genesis’ Kyle Reese Admits He Was Skeptical About The Reboot

Terminator: Genesis is one in a long line of rebooted film franchises of late, including Star Trek and Planet of the Apes. Sometimes the reboot works, and sometimes it doesn’t, but ]according to one of Terminator: Genesis‘ stars, this latest trip into the Terminator universe will definitely be worth watching.
In an interview with IGN Movies, Jai Courtney talks about his role as Kyle Reese in Terminator: Genesis, and his initial skepticism. Although, if he’s trying to win us over, referencing A Good Day To Die Hard probably isn’t the best way to go about it. Courtney says:
I’ve always had a bit of skepticism about something being rebooted. I remember when [A Good Day to] Die Hard came around a few years ago, I was like, ‘Really? They’re gonna make another one?’ and then I found myself in it and totally invested in it. I think it’s healthy to have that [skepticism] because you want it to be something [special], you want to keep that eye for quality sharp.
The Australian actor also goes on to praise Genesis‘ cast, including the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger in an as-yet-undisclosed role. Courtney continues:
I think Emilia Clarke’s wonderful and she’s got a lot of support and stuff behind her. And Jason Clarke as well I’m a big admirer of so, yeah, it’s gonna be really cool, man. I’m looking forward to doing that, and running around with Arnie won’t be too bad.
It’s true that Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke (no relation) are fine additions to the cast. While the former is not really a proven presence on the big screen, her work on HBO’s Game of Thrones is fantastic. Clarke has had a very good run in a number of supporting roles in movies such as Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby 3D, and White House Down. We’ll also get to see him on the big screen for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes later this year, so it seems his is taking a turn for the better. And of course Arnold Schwarzenegger is always welcome on the big screen.
As for Jai Courtney, he’s pretty boring on the screen. He’s Sam Worthington 2.0 (Worthington was even in Terminator Salvation a few years ago). I’m not convinced that Courtney will be a good Kyle Reese, but I’ll reserve my judgment until I actually watch the movie.
Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) wrote the film’s screenplay, while Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World) will direct. Terminator: Genesis hits theaters everywhere on July 1, 2015.
