SyFy Won’t Turn Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome Into A TV Series

Earlier today we showed you the amazing trailer for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, a 90-minute pilot made for the SyFy Channel with the hopes of convincing them to turn the BSG spin-off into a series. Now that everyone is excited about the show, SyFy has wasted no time in telling us all to forget it.

The series was supposed to be a prequel to the popular, Ron Moore produced series from earlier in this decade. It would have followed the adventures of Adama as a young fighter pilot, with the callsign of Husker. But SyFy tells Deadline that they will not go forward with Blood & Chrome. It’s dead, even though thousands of people have been tweeting and asking them to make this thing happen.

The only silver lining here is that SyFy will at least air the show’s already filmed pilot episode, from which the awesome trailer’s footage came. And there is talk that they will still run it as a digital series on the internet.

That digital series option might sound good, until you consider that part of the reason it isn’t going on television is that they didn’t think they could afford it. Now imagine how much less they’re willing to spend on a digital series… and then do the math on how it will impact this show to be made for a fraction of the budget it actually needs to exist. All that amazing action footage you saw in the trailer? Don’t expect much more of that.

    Way too early to say the whole franchise is dead I think. It could come back sometime, I think right now there is still a strong stigma against science fiction television because this generation grew up with their parents and grandparents watching these shows and this generation seems bent on rebelling against everything their parents and grandparents liked. Once the stigma is gone I think alot of these things will come back strong. Reality TV must die eventually! I swear if I see one more american idol or bachelor spin off I will shoot myself!

    No point watching the pilot if they aren’t going to make it, but syfy isn’t run by anyone with more than a couple of braincells when they cancel Stargate and make films like ferocious planet.

    syfy is stupid now that ever since they changed their name from Sic-Fi.  Now it’s just an other channel that airs some sci-fi

    This just goes to show how awful SyFy has become. Honestly since they have made all these changes they should just call themselves TrueGarbage.  What a change going from the top of all Sci-Fi to the joke of TV.

    It looked good. My only nit-pick: I didn’t like the design of the Cylons. The pilot episode of BSG showed the 70′s versions….I like that better…..personal preference.

    I want to see SyFy canceled. That network has been getting worse and worse. They only want to air cheap products that can pull a quick dollar. When they started getting their feet wet in original syndication back around 1999, they did some decent to amazing programs. Now it’s mostly all garbage.

    Why do we expect anything more from Syfy. They have shown that they can NOT and will not carry quality programing that isn’t Reality television or Wrestling. Since it has been SyFy  there has been no Sci-fi channel.

    As popular as this trailer has been, I’m completely shocked that they don’t at least green light the trailer for immediate broadcast and then upon evaluation of the response of the airing, decide on whether to move on a series or not.

    lol syfy channel blows…what a joke..syfy= junk channel…the crap they have made the past year is a fucking joke…the management should be sacked on the fly and HBO go in a buy what ever is left worth having….atleast they know how to make series that kicks ass…heres hoping that HBO will develop a sci fi series at some point…read sic-fi not syfy which is utter crap

    Maybe the cast sucked. SyFy – if this is true don’t do a digital series. Retool and do it right… Admiral Adama as a young man – you better get a damn good actor. With all the advancements in digital technology just since 2007 you can make an awesome show… The premise is there. The following is there. People will watch. Do it right and make some money for 6 seasons. Stop being dumb. Strike while the iron is hot. That means in the next year with quality work.
