We've got a good feeling about this.

Directing Credits: Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Reeves is easily the biggest name on this list, but like the rest, he’s only really just breaking into the world of mega-budget blockbuster filmmaking. Whether you liked Cloverfield’s shaky cam direction or not, Reeves still helped turn a $25 million monster flick into a $170 million monster hit. He then went on to prove his detractors wrong with Let Me In, somehow managing to remake a movie that didn’t need remaking in a way that both honored the original and put its own unique spin on the material. That skill at figuring out why the source material worked so well, and then applying those lessons to make something similar but also new, is exactly the sort of skill set all these new Star Wars directors will hopefully be bringing to the table. With Dawn of the Planet of the Apes he’s tackling both the largest budget he’s ever worked with (a reported $120 million, up a full $100 million from Let Me In) and he’s working on a reimagined, reinvigorated classic science fiction franchise. Sound familiar? Plus, the experience working with motion-capture on the Apes sequel, and more specifically with Andy Serkis, could easily carry over and be applicable to Star Wars, perhaps giving us CGI creations with a bit more soul than what we got in the prequels.
