We've got a good feeling about this.

Directing Credits: Moon, Source Code, Warcraft

With Moon and Source Code, Duncan Jones gave us a pair of smart, cracking-good science fiction tales rooted in character and made on the (relative) cheap. Working with gorgeous old-school practical effects, Jones’ Moon made you forget its was reportedly made for a mere $5 million, and gave actor Sam Rockwell the chance to shine in what is very nearly a one-man show (even when there are two of him). Source Code gave him a reported $32 million to play with, but it was still very much rooted in his low-budget roots, primarily unfolding in one location (aboard the ill-fated train). Of course, one of the biggest appeals of the Star Wars films is just how rich the universe has become, and with Moon and Source Code, Jones has demonstrated an incredible knack for using setting as a character all its own. Let him take us somewhere we’ve never seen before, or even dig deeper into one of the places we have. Maybe take a Tales from Mos Eisley approach and let us follow the stories of some of those other crazy characters in the background while Han was shooting Greedo (first). But if they do want to go bigger, Jones has recently directed the Warcraft movie, so I’m sure he’s learned a thing or two about working with a top-tier budget.
