sports nationIf anybody ever told you the worlds of science fiction and sports were mutually exclusive, that person must have had trouble talking with his or her head so far up his or her upside-down sarlacc pit. To celebrate…something…ESPN2’s fan-friendly series SportsNation will be dedicating an episode entirely to the Star Wars universe. Ready for some football, you are.

The costume-filled episode is actually pre-Halloween and will be airing tonight, Thursday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. ET, just before the Major League Soccer playoffs. (Soccer is so Star Wars.) The half-hour episode won’t just feature a few new graphics and a bunch of cheap lightsaber toys. They’re going the whole nine parsecs with this one.

For one, the entire SportsNation set is being redesigned to look like the inside of the Millennium Falcon, which is awesome. According to THR, the majority of the most beloved Star Wars characters will make an appearance, including Han Solo, Yoda, Boba Fett, R2-D2, and C-3PO. Host Max Kellerman will be dressing up as Boba Fett, while Marcesslus Wiley will presumably be donning a pair of wrinkly ears for his Yoda costume.

Look no further than the promo video below to see Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and some Stormtroopers make their appearances. Oh, to hear a Wookiee humming along to elevator muzak.

As far as what the show will be covering, they’ve already planned to cover such Star Wars-inspired topics as “Most Unstoppable Skywalkers” and “Best Jedi Mind Trick” for their clip segments. Hopefully they’ll have a “Who’s Hairier than an Ewok” category too. I don’t know why.

While it doesn’t look like the second trilogy will be getting much love here, Star Wars Rebels is, as Chopper will be appearing on the episode at some point. SportsNation will also be premiering an exclusive clip from an upcoming episode. Not too snazzy for a sports show that few people have probably mentioned in the same breath as George Lucas’ magnum opus.

But this isn’t the first time the SportsNation crew has tackled Star Wars for its material. Check out the 2010 clip below, when it was debated whether or not Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is more intimidating than Darth Vader.

Remember, this special episode of SportsNation will air on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. ET, with a re-airing the next day at 3 p.m. ET. If you’re reading this in November, you’re too late.
