Star Wars: Episode VII’s Daisy Ridley Will Be Around For The Whole Trilogy

Get ready to see a lot more of Daisy Ridley. A relative unknown who is one of the new faces we’ll see in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII—which is honestly all I know about her, I wouldn’t recognize her if she sat down next to me at a bar and introduced herself—she apparently will be around not only for the next film, but she will also appear in Episode VIII and Episode IX.
Deadline reports that Ridley’s character, whoever that winds up being, will carry through the entire trilogy of new Star Wars films. There’s not really much more to the report than that, but she must have impressed someone at Disney and Lucasfilm during the worldwide talent search that landed her the role. Up to this point in her career, she’s had small parts in a handful of films and TV shows—and at least one film spun off from an TV show (Inbetweeners 2)—but appearing in three Star Wars movies is certainly one way to increase your profile as an actor.

A few weeks ago, rumors circulated that the plot of Episode VII could revolve around an AWOL stormtrooper, played by fellow newcomer John Boyega (Attack the Block). Also included in these reports is the fact that Ridley is his travelling companion. We know that Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) will figure prominently in the film, especially Solo according to scuttlebutt, and given her appearance, it seems entirely plausible that Ridley could be one of their children. (Many have speculated since more movies were announced that Han and Leia’s kids could become the focus of the franchise.)
Right now, none of this is confirmed. Like everything about Episode VII, any speculation about Ridley’s character is exactly that, and we’ll likely find out when we’re actually in the theater watching the movie. What we do know is that Looper director Rian Johnson is currently working on the script for Episode VIII, which he will also direct. (He’s reportedly going to write at least a treatment of Episode IX as well, and maybe do more than that.) Apparently that means he’s going to be a big part of the plan for Ridley moving forward and play an integral part in her professional future.
We’ll keep an eye out to see if any of the other fresh faces in Episode VII, like Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Boyega, get their contracts similarly extended by the execs at Disney and Lucasfilm. It could indicate who is going to be around for a longer than other characters.
Star Wars: Episode VII, Ridley and all, will hit theaters just in time for the holiday on December 18, 2015.
