Checking my records, it appears that it’s been a couple of weeks since we ran any stories about rumored Star Wars: Episode VII plot points, and that can’t possibly be right, can it? A few months ago they were nearly a daily occurrence, but I guess now that they’ve got a director and screenwriter in place, they’ve switched into “running silent” mode while the damn thing actually gets written. Still, we hate to deprive you, our readers, of the very latest in probably-bullshit rumors about what we’ll see when we return to that galaxy far, far away in a few years. So here we go!

Comic Book News is citing an unnamed source for several new purported details about Star Wars: Episode VII. It’s nothing earthshaking, and since pretty much nothing storywise has officially been confirmed, it’s all being served with a jumbo-size salt lick for your convenience. Here’s the skinny from CBN’s source, who says he/she heard it from someone at Lucasfilm. Needless to say, it involves POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

  • Star Wars Episode VII will be set 30 years after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
  • It will indeed feature the Skywalker/Solo children coming to the peak of their powers
  • The Jedi Order has been rebuilt with Luke Skywalker as Grand Master
  • A disciple of Emperor Palpatine aims to rebuild the Sith Armies of the Old Republic and destroy the Jedi where the Skywalker children will be thrust into battle and face their inner demons of their Skywalker lineage.

Like I said, much of that has been discussed or speculated about before. It seems extremely likely, if not inevitable, that the Skywalker/Solo offspring will be the focus of the new trilogy, if only because that would follow the Skywalker lineage as the previous films have. The 30 years timeline has been bandied about for a while now, and is pretty much common sense given that that’s how much the three original trilogy cast members have aged, and it seems inconceivable that Luke, Han, and Leia won’t appear in some form, even if that has yet to be officially announced by Disney.

The last two are new information, assuming they’re legitimate, but it also wouldn’t be hard to speculate along those lines just based on the timeline involved and imagining how you’d want to transition into a new trilogy of films. Luke going on to become the leader of the resurrected Jedi Order seems like a no-brainer, although I’m not well versed enough in the Expanded Universe to know whether or not that syncs up with that material.

As for the “disciple of Palpatine” returning to cause trouble with a new Sith army, that seems like one of the most obvious story possibilities. It is also similar in concept to Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy, which could irritate die-hard Star Wars fans who would rather see a big-screen version of that story rather than a new riff on the same idea.

At any rate, it could all be pure speculation or outright B.S. We’ll have to wait and see as the targeted 2015 release date inches ever closer.
