Star Trek: The Next Generation Comics Will Pick Up Where The TV Series Left Off
IDW Publishing has announced that Star Trek: The Next Generation will be receiving a new comic book series to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Hard to believe it’s been 25 years since Picard and his crew embarked on their mission to explore strange new worlds.
After the tremendous comic book sales of TNG/Doctor Who crossover line, Assimilation2, IDW have decided that there’s enough interested for a new series to be successful. IDW has also brought on some of the original writers of Star Trek: The Next Generation to pen this new comic book series including TNG favorites, Brannon Braga and Terry Matalas. In many ways this will be a continuation of the original TNG series. As reported by TG Daily Braga said of the new series,
“It’s a thrill and privilege to be writing in the Star Trek universe again,” he continues, “This graphic medium will provide the narrative ambition and visual scope this story deserves — the final chapter in The Borg saga!”
The first book is entitled “Hive” and will see The Next Generation crew face off against The Borg, the most popular and well-known of all TNG villains. A fitting beginning to a new comic book series. Here’s a full synopsis of the new comic book.
In a distant future, where the deadly Borg have assimilated the entire Galaxy, Picard, his crew, and some unexpected allies must prove once and for all that resistance is not futile! Packed with mind-bending twists, time-jumping action, and revered, genre-defining characters, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: HIVE promises to be a must-read event for fans of the TNG’s intrepid legacy.
September 28, 1987 was the original premiere date of the first episode of TNG, a two-part episode entitled, “Encounter at Farpoint.” Star Trek: The Next Generation: Hive #1 will be released in September 2012 and will be part of the 25th anniversary celebration of that episode’s debut.
