With all the recent talk of J.J. Abrams directing the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s easy to look past the fact that he has another sci-fi blockbuster on the way. There’s this little movie called Star Trek Into Darkness that opens later this year, you may have heard of it.

Okay, no one is really looking past the sequel to Abrams’ reboot of the sci-fi classic, but the May 17th release date is fast approaching. While J.J. and company aren’t about to give away all the plot details just yet, they are gradually doling out more and more information. This includes a new behind-the-scenes featurette, courtesy of the Esurance Facebook page. Hey, the Enterprise is a state-of-the-art piece of machinery, you want to make sure that bad boy is fully insured.

Though you’re still not going to learn a ton from this short video, it should serve to get fans even more pumped up. After Abrams lists off a bunch of important characters, he goes on to talk about how the action and scale of Into Darkness are “light years beyond” what they did in the first movie. That’s saying something, because Star Trek was a big, action-packed movie.

Zachary Quinto (Spock) describes the finished product as both “magical” and “stunningly beautiful,” while Chris Pine (Captain James Tiberius Kirk) says the word he’s been hearing is “relentless.” Those are all terms and phrases that might make a body want to watch Into Darkness as soon as possible.

Multiple people talk about upping the ante for the sequel, and the new footage in this video certainly supports that. The grimness of the action here is in line with what we know about the plot of Star Trek Into Darkness. Things are definitely skewed towards the darker, there are a great many explosions, and pretty much every building that appears in these clips end up as a pile of rubble. Again, this all bodes well for a kick-ass movie.

Here’s the official synopsis or Star Trek Into Darkness:
