M. Night Shyamalan has been losing faith with audiences since Lady In The Water in 2006. Each movie he has released – The Happening and The Last Airbender – has been increasingly terrible. Interest was piqued when word got out that his next film would star Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. That movie, After Earth, will see the father and son team in a post-apocalyptic world where nature evolved to kill humans. Check out the trailer below…

Is it surprising that this movie looks really good? The trailer starts off with a bang and never lets go of your attention throughout. If M. Night Shyamalan, Will Smith, and Jaden Smith can keep up this intensity and thrilling pace for After Earth, then they might actually have a hit on their hands.

Reguardless of quality, After Earth will be a box office hit. Shyamalan and the Smith family have enough star power to bring in an audience. The concern is if After Earth will actually be a good movie. We’ve been fooled in the past with the quality of M. Night Shyamalan films. Even if After Earth were mediocre, then that would be considered a success.

After trying to avoid an asteroid storm, General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) and his son Kitai (Jaden Smith) crash land on the cursed Earth. With their ship damaged and General Raige dying inside, Kitai must brave the unfamiliar landscape to locate a rescue beacon, giving them a chance to be saved. After Earth was written by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) and Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli).

During Comic-Con last July, Sony released a few viral videos explaining how the Earth we know and love today became the reality for the movie After Earth.

After Earth will hit theaters everywhere on June 7th 2013.
