With Alien, director Ridley Scott not only gave us one of the best science fiction movies ever made, he also introduced one of the most frightening creatures ever to haunt our nightmares. Each new stage of the xenomorph’s life cycle introduces new horrors, from the repulsive face-huggers, to the vicious chestbursters, to the sleek, unnerving final creature. But night terrors don’t make themselves, and now a new batch of photos has hit the web, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the creation and filming of the alien.

The pictures come via Retronaut, and they include looks at the “creature” doing everything from dangling from some sort of lift, to just sitting around chilling between takes. Several of the shots are of Nigerian actor Bolaji Badejo, the 6’10 fellow who filled out the xenomorph costume in the first alien film. One of the shots appears to be him hanging from two bars while a mold is made of his legs and lower body.

It’s interesting to see how lanky Badejo’s frame was, and how his build helped contribute to the way the creature moved and held itself. Sometimes the guy inside the suit is just as important as the suit itself.
