Rosamund Pike At The World’s End With Edgar Wright
Before Edgar Wright can finally bring the world the long awaited Ant Man movie, there’s the little matter of The World’s End. For the third part in the so-called Cornetto trilogy—which began with Sean of the Dead and continued in Hot Fuzz—the Scott Pilgrim director reunites with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
When filming begins in a month or so, the cast will also include a goddess. The Daily Mail reports that Rosamund Pike has joined the cast of The World’s End. While Pike recently played Andromeda in Wrath of the Titans, she also got to be one of the naughty Bond girls in Die Another Day.
While there is no word on the specifics of Pike’s role, wouldn’t you be willing to bet that she plays a love interest for Simon Pegg’s character? That seems the most likely scenario. He may be goofy, but the ladies sure do love him. I think of Pike primarily as a part of movies like Pride and Prejudice, but she has done quite a bit of comedy lately, including The Big Year and Johnny English Reborn.
20 years after attempting an overly ambitious pub crawl, five childhood friends get together to once again attempt the feat, which will conclude at a pub called the The World’s End. Over the course of the evening, the journey becomes more about the future than the past, and more about the future of humanity than just their own.
Most of us were predestined to buy a ticket to this movie even before we knew it existed. Wright, Pegg, and Frost are geeky icons, and after taking on zombie films and action movies, it will be great to see their take on science fiction. Just how sci-fi The World’s End is remains to be seen, but you can bet it’ll be damn fine time.
Wright’s movies always have a strong cast, and the addition of Pike is only one piece of what is sure to be another movie that we’ll all quote endlessly. You can see her coming up soon in Jack Reacher, and there are sure to be more casting announcements following soon as production approaches.
