Already an established funnyman by the time he landed an oddball guest spot on the hit sitcom Happy Days, Williams turned what should have been a one-off role into one-half of the hugely successful spin-off Mork and Mindy, co-created by the legendary Garry Marshall. As Mork, Williams played an alien from Ork who regularly shared his Earthbound adventures with his mostly off-screen superior, Orson. Shacking up with too-young Pam Dawber’s Mindy, Mork soon introduced TV audiences to nonsense catchphrases, unique fashion trends, and a completely mouth-free way to drink a glass of water. The show eventually flew way off track, introducing Jonathan Winters’ man-child Mearth, but for at least two seasons, Mork & Mindy was one of the most out-of-this-world sitcoms on TV.
