Ridley Scott Producing Flick About Psychic Spies
Between Prometheus, the Prometheus sequel, and the oft-rumored Blade Runner sequel, Ridley Scott seems to be diving back into the genre that made him a geek legend with gusto. Now we can add another genre outing to his development slate, as he’s going to produce an adaptation of Mind MGMT, a Dark Horse sci-fi comic about psychic spies.
THR says that Twentieth Century Fox has snagged the movie rights to Matt Kindt’s Mind MGMT, and Scott is so far only involved as a producer at this point. That could always expand to director if he finds a spot in his schedule or decides he’s particularly excited about the material. Of course, a quick scan of his IMDb Pro page has him attached to no fewer than 42 separate projects, so we probably shouldn’t hold out hope that he’ll be behind the camera on this one.
Kindt’s Mind MGMT focuses on a government agency comprised of psychic spies. Unfortunately, the group’s most powerful member, Henry Lime, loses control of his powers and accidentally brainpushes an entire town into killing each other. That’s the sort of thing that tests the boundaries of that whole “no such thing as bad publicity” adage, and so Lime hightails it and goes off the grid. Lime eventually crosses paths with a true-crime writer who begins investigating the group, and discovers she may have unexpected connections to the group herself.
Mind MGMT is still a long way away from the big screen, but it’s definitely a concept with potential, assuming they can find the right talent in front of and behind the camera. The next step will be finding somebody to write the script. We’ll keep you posted.
