WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE PURGE BELOW

With the surprise success of last summer’s The Purge, Universal Studios and Blumhouse Productions is looking to replicate that success again with round two. While critics and audiences were pretty lukewarm toward the first movie, it’s going to be interesting to see if writer/director James DeMonaco can expand the world of The Purge and payoff the film’s fascinating premise. Now Universal has put together a sweepstakes to give fans of the film an opportunity to appear in the upcoming sequel.

If you go to The Purge‘s official Facebook page, you can enter in the sweepstakes for your chance to be an extra in The Purge 2. The film will need more extras because it seems that the sequel will have a bigger scope than the original.

While plot details for the Purge sequel are a bit murky at this point, one of the film’s stars, Zach Gilford, might have spilled the beans on The Purge 2‘s plot. Apparently the sequel might take place at the same time as the events in the original Purge, but on the other side of the country. The Purge 2 also might be more violent and action-packed than its predecessor. Gilford says:

I thought they had a really great way to do a sequel because the first one took place in an upscale suburb with what happens to a family there when their security system doesn’t work. With this one, there’s none of the same characters, but it’s the same day of the year and it takes place in the city where there are no security systems and it’s just like a war zone where people are just trying to survive.

There were rumors that the sequel film might be titled The Purge 2: The Zone, which sounds like it might jibe with the description above.

I was a big fan of the original Purge, and I’m very much looking forward to next chapter in the series. But if the sequel is just going to be mayhem and chaos, I might not be too interested with that outcome. The first film was thoughtful and examined the morality of unjust, man-made laws, while at the same time delivering blood and gore for the horror hounds. Hopefully The Purge 2 will have the same complex morality I enjoyed in the first film.

The sequel film’s cast includes Frank Grillo, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Kiele Sanchez, Keith Stanfied, Chad Morgan, and Zoe Borde. The Purge 2 will hit theaters everywhere on June 20.
