Stargate (the original movie) is the same as Star Trek V.

Religious Leaders: The movie revolves around a scientist, Daniel Jackson, who has abandoned the rational arguments of the scientific community in favor of pursuing the Egyptian gods who built the pyramids.

Can't Trust Your Crew: Colonel O'Neil has brought a nuclear bomb to blow up the Stargate.

Landing Zone: The Stargate wormhole drops off the team in a pyramid in the middle of the desert.

God is Evil: The Egyptian god Ra wants to blow up the Earth by sending a nuclear bomb back through the Stargate.

Character introduction: Movie opens to a girl hanging out in a remote desert, where a giant Stargate is found in the sand.

Self-sacrifice: Colonel O'Neil and Daniel Jackson stand ready to sacrifice themselves to stop the bomb, which has a faulty detonator. Would've done it too if they hadn't remembered the transporter right behind them.

The Trojan Horse: In Stargate, the cast disguises as natives to sneak back into the pyramid to stop the enemy. In ST5, the cast disguises as natives to sneak into the city to stop the enemy.

Educational Imprisonment: In Stargate, Daniel Jackson learns a great deal about Ra's motives while incarcerated. In ST5, Captain Kirk learns a great deal about Sybok's motives while incarcerated.

Civilian Uprising: In Stargate, the leader of an enslaved people leads the rebellion against their god. In ST5, the leader of an impoverished people leads the rebellion against their local government.

Giant Blue Face God: In ST5, God is a giant blue face. In Stargate, Ra is a giant blue face (underneath human skin).

Completely agree with the notion that they didn't rip off ST5 intentionally. At worst just some sort of subconscious influence on what they're doing. Damon Lindeloff wrote Prometheus and he also wrote the new Star Trek sequel script, which probably means he was watching and researching a lot of Star Trek while he wrote it. Maybe that an effect on him.

Scary, but true, although I would have to say that I doubt VERY much that anyone stole anything 'consciously' from ST V... why would you steal from one of the worst movies ever made, and without a doubt the worst ST movie. But there are a LOT of coincidences. Just got back from the Prometheus, and my biggest complaint is they gave away the whole story in the trailers... and I tried REALLY HARD to NOT watch the trailers. I tried not to get my hopes up, but with Scott back at the helm, and lot of unanswered questions left from Alien, I couldn't help it. Sadly, I was mostly disappointed. It had some nice moments, but nothing that really blew me away. And now that I see all the connections to ST V.... that makes it even sadder.

You can pretty much take any movie nowadays and compare it to another movie in some way. Yes this shows that there are similarities between the two in ways that seem they took it out of the movie like the designs of the vehicles and whatnot. Movies have to follow certain ways a story unfolds so that movie makes sense and have to have certain attributes, sometimes those things will be identical to other movies, some do it and no one notices or they do it and sole people notice or everyone does.
That doesn't make this movie a bad movie though it is still a great movie
